POSITION SUMMARY
Educare is a state-of-the-art, full-day, year-round school that serves at-risk children from birth to five years. Building on the program foundations of Early Head Start and Head Start, Educare promotes school readiness by implementing effective programming aimed at preventing the development of an achievement gap in the early years.
Each Educare is part of a national initiative that serves as a platform for broader change, inspiring high-quality programs in communities, improving public policies within each state, and demonstrating a comprehensive approach to the first five years of life and learning.
As part of the Educare initiative, each school is a highly visible program that is host to a wide variety of visitors. The Educare model draws on a unique blend of private and public dollars, including child care, Early Head Start, Head Start, and other state and local education funding streams.
The Educare Site Director is responsible for the day-to-day management of the Educare program, ensuring the implementation of comprehensive services at Educare including evidence-based early childhood education for at-risk children ages birth to five, family support and engagement, health, nutrition, mental health, and social services in compliance with Head Start Performance Standards, and state and local regulatory guidelines.
The Site Director provides leadership to Educare staff in the implementation of the Educare model and its core features, and is responsible for planning, implementing and supervising all operations as well as leading ongoing program planning and monitoring of the school. The Site Director oversees a staff of more than sixty (60) including education, family support staff, and administrative support.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS
The Site Director is supervised by the Next Door Foundation Executive Director and is a member of the Educare Governance Committee. The Site Director supervises the Master Teachers, Family Support Supervisor(s), and the Educare Administrative Assistant.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Educare Program
• Manage the day to day operations of the Educare Center
• Oversee the planning and implementation of the Educare model in accordance with the Educare agreement
• Ensure supervision, monitoring and evaluation of Educare employees and Early Head Start Staff on a regular basis
• Ensure compliance with requirements of funding sources
• Schedule and prepare written reports for the Educare Governance committee
• Provide presentations to the Next Door Foundation Board of Directors, Next Door Foundation Program Committee and Executive Director as requested
• Manage the Educare budgets, revenue and expenses to ensure a positive bottom line for Educare, and its impact on the Next Door Foundation.
• Participate in the Bounce Learning Network meetings and activities
Early Head Start
• Manage the Early Head Start budgets, revenue and expenses to ensure a positive bottom line for Early Head Start and its impact on the Next Door Foundation.
• Ensure Early Head Start governance objectives are meet through participation in regularly scheduled Policy Council and Parent Committee meetings, trainings, and events.
• Work with Next Door Staff to ensure completion of Early Head Start self assessment and Community Needs Assessment.
Next Door Foundation
• Ensure coordination of Educare planning and activities with appropriate Next Door Foundation directors and managers
• Participate and contribute to the Next Door Foundation staff meetings and activities.
• Support fund development activities, grant writing, and outreach on a timely basis
• Work with the Executive Director to ensure organizational effectiveness through strategic planning, risk management, self-assessment and systems integration.
• Perform other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS:
Background
• Masters Degree in Education, Human Services or related field required, degree Early Childhood Education preferred,
• Extensive knowledge and 5-7 years practical application of Head Start performance standards or equivalent experience.
• Minimum 5 years experience as a Head Start director or Deputy Director or equivalent experience, including supervisory and management experience
• Broad knowledge of Early Childhood development, assessment and evaluative methods and tools.
Communication Skills
• Excellent written and verbal skills
• Ability to represent Educare and Next Door Foundation in community roles
• Excellent interpersonal skills
• Ability to work in with culturally diverse families and low-income families
• Ability to effectively support staff across all agency programs
Managerial skills
• Strong leadership skills with the ability to manage in a complex organizational structure with minimal supervision
• Ability to manage, develop and motivate staff and ensure accountability
• Strong time management skills
• Ability to manage budgets and grant accountability.
• Ability to work toward ensuring quality outcomes for all children in the agency
Other
• Must be willing to have a Tuberculosis Skin Test at the time of hire
• Ability to have regular use of an insured, privately owned vehicle on a daily basis, and the ability to conduct off site visits
• Must have Liability insurance of $100,000/$300,000 on first day of employment.
• Must be able to work evenings and weekends as required

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to sit/stand and move freely throughout the day. The employee must also climb stairs and walk frequently, with bending, twisting and reaching. Must be alert with good vision, with the ability to hear, speak and read. Must be able to lift 30 pounds.
