Milwaukee LIHF Project Manager
Milwaukee Lifecourse Initiative for Healthy Families (LIHF) is a Collaborative of local organizations and individuals working to reduce African American infant mortality in Milwaukee. Supported in part by the Wisconsin Partnership Program of the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health, the Collaborative is developing a Community Action Plan. The goals of the plan are to expand healthcare access over the life course,
strengthen father involvement in African American families, and reduce poverty among African American families.
Reports to: LIHF Project Director, Planning Council for Health and Human Services
Definition and Scope: Under the general supervision of the Milwaukee LIHF Project Director, the LIHF project manager works with the Milwaukee Lifecourse Initiative for Healthy Families (LIHF) Collaborative members, community members, staff, and Wisconsin Partnership Program staff to complete Milwaukee’s Community Action Plan, strengthen and formalize the Collaborative and build community awareness and support. This is a limited term, part-time (.75 FTE) position.
Areas of Responsibility:
v Continue to develop consensus and community buy-in for the Community Action Plan
v Strengthen and enhance the Collaborative to assure shared governance
v Work with Wisconsin Partnership staff and consultants
v Engage in WPP sponsored community education and public awareness efforts.
Preferred Characteristics and Abilities:
v Knowledge of African American culture and organizations
v Familiarity with Milwaukee-based organizations and institutions
v Experience with the life course perspective, health and family issues
v Available from October 1, 2011 –March 31, 2012 with possible continuation in the implementation period
v Demonstrated ability to work well with a wide range of people required.
v Experience in resource development, grant writing, and project management preferred
An important initial activity will include engaging the Collaborative in developing a shared understanding of the impact of racism on infant mortality and the ability to form and sustain a coalition. This position could potentially become the lead staff to the Collaborative in the implementation phase (after March) depending on the interests of the Fiscal Sponsor.
