Milwaukee LIHF Project Manager


Milwaukee Lifecourse Initiative for Healthy Families (LIHF) is a Collaborative of local organizations and individuals working to reduce African American infant mortality in Milwaukee. Supported in part by the Wisconsin Partnership Program of the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health, the Collaborative is developing a Community Action Plan. The goals of the plan are to expand healthcare access over the life course,
strengthen father involvement in African American families, and reduce poverty among African American families. 

Reports to: LIHF Project Director, Planning Council for Health and Human Services

Definition and Scope: Under the general supervision of the Milwaukee LIHF Project Director, the LIHF project manager works with the Milwaukee Lifecourse Initiative for Healthy Families (LIHF) Collaborative members, community members, staff, and Wisconsin Partnership Program staff to complete Milwaukee’s Community Action Plan, strengthen and formalize the Collaborative and build community awareness and support.  This is a limited term, part-time (.75 FTE) position.

Areas of Responsibility:
v     Continue to develop consensus and community buy-in for the Community Action Plan
v     Strengthen and enhance the Collaborative to assure shared governance
v     Work with Wisconsin Partnership staff and consultants
v     Engage in WPP sponsored community education and public awareness efforts.

Preferred Characteristics and Abilities:
v     Knowledge of African American culture and organizations
v     Familiarity with Milwaukee-based organizations and institutions
v     Experience with the life course perspective, health and family issues
v     Available from October 1, 2011 –March 31, 2012 with possible continuation in the implementation period

An important initial activity will include engaging the Collaborative in developing a shared understanding of the impact of racism on infant mortality and the ability to form and sustain a coalition. This position could potentially become the lead staff to the Collaborative in the implementation phase (after March) depending on the interests of the Fiscal Sponsor.

Position Summary
The Grants Manager creates and executes a strategic grants program that effectively matches program and organizational needs to funding opportunities from foundation, corporate and government donors. The Grants Manager will work closely with the Vice President of Development and others to develop compelling approaches and materials that will win financial support for programs, build capacity and meet budgeted goals. In addition to primary grant writing duties, the Grants Manager prepares a weekly status reports, conducts fund development research, manages peer solicitation assignments and assists with general fundraising activities, including special events.

Qualifications
Education
* Bachelor's degree from an accredited college.
Experience
* Three to five years fundraising experience as a grants writer; experience in a United Way partner agency and/or social service agency a plus, along with understanding of program delivery and outcomes reporting.
Competencies and Skills
* Excellent writing and editing skills, with the ability to interpret and package ideas in a clear and persuasive manner.
* Experience with all facets of grant research, cultivation, management and stewardship.
* Demonstrated ability to interpret program outcomes and data; experience with logic models within context of grant proposals.

Responsibilities
* Manages all writing, data collection and submission of Letters of Intent, grant proposals and reports to prospective and current donors.
* Maintains accurate database records and grant report activity using Raiser's Edge including written strategies for all major foundation and corporate donors.
* Provides weekly, monthly and "as needed" reports for internal discussion/review of projected/secured/pending grant awards and other related metrics
* Researches, identifies and prioritizes new sources of funding on an ongoing basis to ensure that budgeted goals are met.
* Recommends foundation/corporate recognition and stewardship "moves management" to the VP of Development.
* Tracks all agency board and peer solicitation assignments (major donors) in Raiser's Edge
* Handles all information with high degree of confidentiality.
* Represents agency as appropriate, including BBBS evening and weekend events.
* Performs other duties as assigned, including cross-training on database, data entry, phones, etc.

Health and Safety Specialist, Milwaukee Police Department


PURPOSE:
The Health and Safety Specialist is a civilian employee of the Milwaukee Police Department (MPD). Under the direction of the Health and Safety Officer, the Health and Safety Specialist is responsible for performing a full range of professional duties related to developing, implementing, and administering departmental programs designed to enhance safety and reduce employee absenteeism for 2,600 employees of the MPD, both sworn and civilian.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Review and process requests for Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA), maternity, childrearing, and unpaid medical leaves of absence. Provide support, advice, and problem resolution to employees regarding the various leave programs. Work with the Employee Benefits Division of the Department of Employee Relations (DER) to resolve problems.
  • Manage return to work under the limited duty program.
  • Coordinate fitness for duty examinations. Work closely with the MPD Medical Section supervisor and the City Attorney’s Office to resolve complex cases.
  • Review and approve payment for services rendered under pre-employment examinations, fitness for duty examinations, hepatitis B vaccinations, sexual assault and homicide evidence collections, OWI blood draws, and ambulance conveyances.
  • Prepare information for the manager of the MPD Medical Section to review prior to appearing at hearings involving the City Attorney’s Office, Worker’s Compensation-DER, or unemployment matters. Attend and testify at hearings in the absence of the manager of the MPD Medical Section.
  • Perform periodic payroll audits to ensure that daily, bi-weekly, and quarterly entries into the CityTime Online System are accurate. Monitor required OSHA reporting.
  • Assist the manager of the MPD Medical Section with updating the Department’s Safety Plan, and make recommendations to the plan as appropriate.
  • Respond to requests for information for employee medical personnel records and lost wages from the Employee Benefits Division-DER, attorneys, and insurance companies.
  • Supervise the operations of the MPD Medical Section in the absence of the manager, and perform other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
  1. Bachelor’s Degree with a major in business administration, human resources, industrial relations, occupational safety, health care administration, or a related field from an accredited college or university.

THE CURRENT SALARY RANGE (SG 03) IS: $41,458 to $58,037 annually with excellent benefits. Recruitment is normally at the beginning of the range.

Role:
The Annual Giving Manager (AGM) is a key member of the Advancement team and is responsible for the Annual Giving program. This person will develop and implement a plan to maintain, renew, and build annual giving support from members of the University School of Milwaukee community. The AGM reports to the Director of Development and Donor Relations.

Responsibilities:
  • Plan and execute a comprehensive Annual Giving program in collaboration with the Alumni Relations Manager.
  • Manage annual giving solicitations and stewardship for parents, grandparents, faculty/staff, and other constituents. Support additional activities that occur within a highly segmented and sophisticated annual fundraising program.
  • Plan and manage phonathon, direct mail, and email/web-based appeals, to include targeted and broad-based groups of prospects.
  • Assist with recruiting, training, coordinating, and supporting volunteers, including the Annual Giving Cabinet leaders and class-level parent leaders.
  • Oversee annual gift acknowledgment process for all annual donors at all levels of giving. Participate in the stewardship of donors to thank, inform, and educate about the purpose of annual giving.
  • Identify opportunities to expand annual giving through the acquisition of new donors, and the increased giving levels of existing donors.
  • Manage a portfolio of 75 to 100 individual prospects and volunteers, to include direct solicitation.
  • Complete regular assessment of progress towards goals, analyzing the various aspects of the program and developing the plan for the upcoming year.
  • Use Raiser's Edge to capture and track donor/prospect engagement and participation. Generate weekly contact reports.
  • Work closely with Marketing & Communications team to communicate all aspects of the Annual Giving program.

Requirements Include:
In addition to a bachelor's degree, the ideal candidate will possess the following skills and abilities:
  • A minimum of two years of experience with responsibility for annual fundraising in an independent school or related non-profit.

Nature of Work:
The role of the Associate Director is to develop and implement a strategic plan in collaboration with the board to raise and grow vital funds to fulfill Voces de la Frontera’s mission to protect and expand the rights of low-wage workers, immigrants, and their families. The two primary responsibilities are to oversee fundraising and ensure integrity in the financial management of the organization. The development director is accountable to the Executive Director (ED) and reports to the ED and board on a regular basis. The Associate Director has an outreach role in the organization in developing and maintaining an ongoing relationship with major donors.

Financial Management:

  • Financial coordination with outside accountant on budget, cost centers and obtaining income/ expense statements to be consistent with grant budgets and contracts and prepare such reports for the Executive Director, Board of Directors and funders.
  • Develop the annual budget with the Executive Director and Board of Directors. 
  • Meet regularly with the Finance Committee to monitor finances and develop budgets and report.
  • Oversee and ensure legal compliance for financial management and government reporting of Voces de la Frontera 501c3 and Voces de la Frontera Action 501c4. This includes separating expenses, tracking lobbying and electoral activity, filing timely reports with the state and federal government. 
  • Supervise and ensure accurate account coding for weekly deposits of all cash and checks.
  • Supervise and ensure accurate account coding for weekly batch of invoices that are sent to outside accountant.
  • Supervise and ensure internal controls for all cash handling and financial management.
  • Supervise filing and record management for all financial matters.
  • Review and update internal controls with financial committee as needed.

Development Duties:

  • Develop and execute annual development plan with new prospects, existing funding sources, fundraising activities and events.
  • Develop and track proposals and reports for all foundation and corporate fundraising.
  • Update and maintain grants calendar, tracking deadlines and reports of grant proposals, grant reports and prospective funders.

Position Overview 
This is an extraordinary and timely opportunity for an experienced fund development professional to substantially grow a fund development program for the ACLU of Wisconsin. A senior management position, the Development Director will report to and work closely with the Executive Director along with a dedicated staff of professionals and key volunteers, to implement a multi-faceted development plan to manage programs which raise funds for the ACLU and strengthen the links between the organization and its supporters. The Development Director is responsible for planning, supervising and executing the affiliate's annual giving and major gifts programs and other fundraising strategies. The Development Director and will supervise a development assistant.


Job Responsibilities

Primary Responsibilities

Annual and Major Gifts Programs: Identify, develop and implement strategies for the solicitation of a substantial number of prospective donors for gifts of at least $5000; dedicate approximately one-half time to a personal portfolio of the organization's top donors and prospects, including face-to-face donor visits for cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship; facilitate similar activities for the Executive Director and top board leadership; work with the national ACLU office in coordinating high level solicitations.

Other Responsibilities

Foundation Grants Program:  Lead teams of senior staff seeking foundation grants, including coordination of strategic prospect research, scheduling, writing, grant preparation and reporting.

Planned Giving:  Work with the national ACLU Office of Planned Giving to develop and implement strategies for marketing planned giving products to ACLU donors and members.

Events: Participate in events tied directly to cultivation, stewardship or solicitation of major donors.

Gift Recording & Acknowledgement:  Supervise staff to maintain accurate and current data files, including giving histories, profiles, interactions; coordinate with the ACLU National Office regarding changes and updates. Become proficient in National ACLU sharing formulas and the national ACLU donor database. Assist in production of reports for annual audits and reconciliation of funds between the ACLU/WIF and the National office.

Materials: Maintain primary responsibility for developing the messages, materials, and explanations of our work used in all of the development activities. Oversee the development of the Annual Report and other materials that advance the ACLU's development programs.

General staff leadership responsibilities:  Attend ACLU functions, such as the annual membership meeting, occasional Board meetings and other ACLU events. Assist the Executive Director in maintaining a strong team spirit within the office.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree and/or equivalent combination of education and experience with at least five years experience in fundraising focusing on individual major gifts, campaigns and events, particularly in advocacy or community-based organizations. CFRE accreditation desirable.
  • Experience in working with advocacy and/or community-based organizations.
  • Broad understanding of multi-faceted campaign planning, implementation and management.
  • A successful track record of identifying, cultivating and soliciting major individual donors and foundations.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and comfort working with donors, volunteers and senior staff.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills and ability to motivate others and work well with colleagues; experience in successfully directing volunteers in positive, team-oriented approach.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills with experience developing successful written donor communications and marketing materials.
  • Experience with donor database management and systems to ensure complete, secure and private donor records.
  • Superb organization skills; detail oriented with strong follow-through and the ability to meet tight deadlines.
  • An ability to manage a demanding full time schedule, including early mornings, evenings and some weekends.
