POSITION TITLE: Operations Manager
REPORTS TO: Assistant Director
WORK SCHEDULE: 40 hours per week, Monday-Friday 8:30am-5pm with some weekend and night events
SALARY: $35,000 – $40,000 commensurate with experience plus benefits

POSITION SUMMARY: The Operations Manager (OM) administers day-to-day organizational operations. The OM administers human resources policies, procedures and systems. The OM assists with development and fundraising tasks. The OM carries out responsibilities in the following functional areas: neighborhood communications, employee/volunteer relations, training and development, benefits, compensation, fundraising, and organizational development. The position ensures a safe, efficient and welcoming environment for neighbors, employees, volunteers, supporters and visitors. The OM ensures the smooth and efficient operation of the office by performing the following duties.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: Bachelor’s degree in human resource management, community development, nonprofit management, or other related field


SKILLS AND SPECIFICATIONS:
• The ideal candidate will have 3-5 years of farm management experience, preferably at an urban or organic farm.
• Experience supervising staff and/or volunteers and working with diverse communities.
• Experience teaching youth and/or adults in a farm or garden setting.
• Interest and familiarity with issues relating to local food, food access, and sustainable agriculture, and a genuine appreciation of the urban environment.
• Strong organizational and written/verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Proficiency in all MS office applications required.
• Bachelor’s degree in agriculture, natural resources, plant science, horticulture or a related field is preferred but not required.
• Valid driver’s license
• Minimum of 2 years experience working in office management and/or human resource management
• Strong project management skills
• Commitment to work in diverse settings
• Proven ability to work with youth and adults from diverse economic backgrounds
• Excellent oral and written skills; ability to represent the agency
• Knowledge of non-profit functions
• High degree of professionalism including organization & planning
• Exceptional attention to detail and time management skills

AREA OF FOCUS: Urban Agriculture, Sustainable Food Production, Environmental Education
START DATE: May 1st 2011
TIME COMMITMENT: June-October: Tuesday-Saturday 7am-4:30pm; November-May may fluctuate

POSITION SUMMARY: Walnut Way is seeking a full-time Urban Agriculture Coordinator to oversee production and operations in our Central City Milwaukee neighborhood-based campus. Walnut Way operates sub acre production gardens and orchards, teaching gardens, and educational programs. The Urban Agriculture Coordinator is responsible for the management, planning, and oversight of Walnut Way farming operations from land preparation through quality harvest including all aspects of organic vegetable, herb, flower and fruit production. Additionally, s/he is responsible for the coordination of Lindsay Heights neighborhood tree and garden installations. S/he is also responsible for organizing campus maintenance including snow removal and landscape upkeep. April-October: 45 hours per week; January- February: 35 hours per week
